On the anniversary of the 12th death anniversary of noted poet and social reformer Sufia Kamal, Samajik Protirodh Committee organized a discussion and cultural programme on November 20 at the central Shaheed Minar premises in the city.

Tagore artistes Shusmita Ahmed and Iffat Ara Dewan gave performances at the programme.

Sultana Kamal, executive director of Ain O Salish Kendro, Rokeya Kabir, executive director of Bangladesh Nari Pragati Sangha: advocate Salma Ali, director of Bangladesh Women Lawyers Association, Rangan Karmaker, executive director of Steps Towards Development, Rokeya Rafiq, executive director of armojibi  Nari, among others, delivered speeches on the occasion.

Ayesha Khanom, president of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad, presided over the programme.
The discussants focused on Sufia Kamal’s life and works. Describing her as progressivwe and seclar activist they said that she was a torchbearer of the country’s culture, tradition, liberation War and Language Movement. She fought for women’s right and liberty that later turned into a fight against social injustice, superstition and religious intolerance.
